Jean Sibelius
Born: 1864-11-30
Died: 1956-11-30
Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is considered to be the personification of Finnish national culture. After a hesitant start in Helsinki, he travelled to Berlin and Vienna where he continued his studies. He was inevitably drawn into the political unrest of the latter part of the 19th century, and he found himself in the middle of his country's struggle for political independence from the Russian Tsarist movement.
